It goes without saying that we are living in uncertain times, but isn’t life always uncertain?!
I think it goes without saying, that as a small business owner I am already feeling the effects of the pandemic, but there is literally nothing I can do to change or control the situation.
So, what is one to do?
Well, if I can't control the situation, I am most definitely going to take back the control that I do have, and that is to ensure that the situation doesn't control me.
In my mind, we have two options; to join the madness, which will only plummet further into an unhealthy mindset OR, to remain sensible, logical and find ways to see a bright side to an already dark time.
I don’t know about you, but I much prefer the latter.
So, before I could even comprehend creating an action plan for the months ahead, I decided to first attend to the needs of the one person who was going to determine my future happiness...me!
I'm sure all of you are receiving advice on what and how you should spend this time, but in all honesty, I think you should disregard all that and do whatever it is that you need. If you can do that, then who knows, maybe that novel or painting may soon follow, but first, you need to concentrate on what it is you need!
For me, I did the two things that always manage to make me feel better (especially on those "blah" days) and I did them all within the comfort (and safety) of my home.
1. Pamper Sesh
For as long as I can remember, any time I need a little pick-me-up, I have always given myself a little pamper sesh. I have never gone elsewhere to seek treatment, maybe because I was watching my pennies or maybe because I’m little Miss Independent not wanting to rely on someone else to make me feel better. Whichever it was, I ensured I allowed the time my body needed for treatment - from face scrubs right down to pedicures. The end result? I felt like a million dollars of course!
I love a good old fashion body scrub. It's a great way to rid of dead skin AND dead energy. There's a reason you feel rejuvenated afterward.
I use the coffee granules from my plunger coffee as a scrub. If you find it a little coarse, add a teaspoon of coconut oil for moisture.
2. Get Up. Dress Up. Show Up.
"No matter how you feel, get up, dress up, show up". I'd only discovered this quote by Regina Brett a few years back when my mum caught me dressing up for no good reason other than to dance in front of the mirror. It's funny how I didn't know of its origin and yet here I was living and breathing the very mantra. I don't know when I started doing this, but whenever I've had a day of feeling "blah" I pop on the tunes (you always need a bit of music to narrate the scene), pop on some lippy and raid my wardrobe like it's the sales rack at my favourite boutique.
Reinvent your wardrobe. Most of the time you don't need to add to it, just add to the ways in which you wear it.
Get creative. Wear scarfs as belts, earrings as brooches & necklaces as bracelets. Experiment with accessories, clothing, shoes and see what you discover.
Oh, and if you're wondering where I went after I did all this, the answer is nowhere. I didn't want nor need to go out. I did it because that's what I needed. And that is that!
So, what is it you're going to do for yourself today?
